The 2008 conference will be held April 28'th thru April 30'th, 2008, at Oracle Headquarters in Redwood Shores, California. IBM is also providing two extra free days (April 30'th thru May 2'nd) of hands on training to SIG members who preregister. These IBM workshops will be offered on a first come, first served basis as space is limited.

The cost for the conference is $495 which includes Sunday's reception, breakfast and lunch, dinner and entertainment Tuesday evening, and a choice of one of the optional IBM Workshops (you must pre-register for the workshop).

The conference starts with a Welcome Reception on Sunday, April 27'th, evening sponsored by Oracle Corporation. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (morning) sessions include presentations by customers, Oracle Corporation, IBM, and others. The entertainment event on Tuesday evening is sponsored by IBM Corporation. The main conference will end with a served lunch on Wednesday. The optional IBM workshops will be hosted Wednesday afternoon, all day Thursday, and Friday morning.

The conference hotel is the Sofitel San Francisco Bay Hotel which is located several blocks from Oracle Headquarters.

With Oracle's recent announcement regarding future support of the z/OS platform the following 2 workshops will be held in conjunction with the conference:

Oracle on Linux on System z Workshop:

In conjunction with the Oracle zSeries SIG 2008 Conference, IBM is hosting a special 'no-charge' workshop for conference attendees who are considering consolidating and moving Oracle DB workloads to a Linux environment using z/VM software and System z hardware technology. This 2.5 day workshop is designed for system administrators, DBA's, and planners considering a move of Oracle to Linux on System z, and offers practical, hands-on experience through a combination of lectures and labs to install and configure SUSE Linux. A hands-on customization of z/VM will be performed to establish an environment for a Linux system. The workshop includes the installation and customization of Oracle 10g, and will include a discussion of performance tooling for Linux and z/VM that can be used to monitor and tune the system environment. There is no fee for your organization to participate in this workshop, which is led by instructors from IBM's Washington Systems Center. Travel, food, and lodging expenses are the responsibility of the individuals attending the workshop. Seating is limited. The SIG Conference concludes Wednesday, April 30'th, and the workshop will begin at 1pm, Wednesday April 30, and end at 1pm Friday, May 2.

z/OS Workshop:

A second workshop is being planned by IBM and Oracle which will be designed to assist you to migrate your Oracle databases on z/OS to the latest patch set release of 10gR2 so that you will be in a position to keep running your Oracle on z/OS databases for many years to come using the Oracle Lifetime Support Policy. It will include installing 10gR2 using the Oracle Universal Installer, using opatch to apply the latest patches as well as using zIIP engines and WLM to manage your z/OS databases. It will be held on Wednesday April 30th and Thursday May 1st in conjunction with the Oracle zSeries SIG conference.

Please preregister for the conference and signup for these special workshops.
